We support children who face barriers to education, teaching them life skills that allow them to re-engage in learning.
Over the 8 years Mimi’s House has been operating our evaluation data has demonstrated that we positively impact the lives of our children. In 2018, we partnered with the University of Queensland to further develop how we capture this impact, including exploring the long-term benefits of our program for children, their families and the wider community.
Early Intervention
We run an early intervention nurturing program for children in Prep to Grade 5 who are at risk of disengaging from education. We partner with primary schools to support the social, emotional and physical development of these children through the development of key life skills.
Our Program
2nd Year Mentoring
Once children have completed an initial year at Mimi’s House they are matched with a trained and screened mentor. Mentors work with our children to further develop resilience, reinforce lessons learnt the previous year and build a safe and consistent relationship with an appropriate trustworthy adult.
Family Support
Our family liaison develops positive relationships with the families of children who attend the program offering support and mentoring. Families are offered assistance and referred to relevant support agencies when suitable.
